Races of Gran Turismo 3

(UPDATED: April 11, 2012)

In Gran Turismo 3, the race model has shifted from four different kinds of racing to three different leagues based on difficulty. The Rally racing returns in its own category. Same goes for the Endurance races. Gran Turismo 3 features a much deeper racing model than Gran Turismo 1 and Gran Turismo 2 combined. Even regular races can feature pit stops to really shake things up. Prepare to earn your victories like never before! This blog post features a look at all of the races in Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec. Are you ready to take on the new crop of races for Gran Turismo 3?

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

APR 11 2012 - edited some content, updated look of post.

--- Races of Gran Turismo 3 at a Glance ---

Races with four or less events makes up a Series Race. Races with five or more races make up a Championship Race.

Beginner League.

The Beginner League has the shortest races and against some of the weakest cars. Don't fret too much about the level of competition in this series of races. Most races last anywhere between two to three laps.

Amateur League.

In the Amateur League, you will run longer races and against tougher opposition. Most races last three laps, five laps, and maybe seven or ten laps.

Professional League.

Only established veterans race in the Professional League. This is where the longest and most difficult races are raced. Your ability to endure while also having a car great enough to take on the rigors of this league are the difference between winning and losing.

Rally Events.

If you have a Rally license, you can take on the Rally Events. All you need are rally tires for most events. Only two series will allow you to race without needing Dirt tires.

Endurance Races.

Races that last anywhere between one hour to almost three hours are featured here in a variety of races. An IA license is needed to compete in all ten endurance races. The most important thing to remember is to have tires of varying compounds for races that aren't restricted to Normal cars. They can make the difference between winning and losing.

Now that you know the races, the next order of business is to talk about the races.

--- Beginner League ---

Time to go racing! The Beginner League should be your first foray into racing. The races are all fairly short and don't require too much (especially the early races) to win. This is where you become introduced to the many different cars and tracks of Gran Turismo 3. Do you have what it takes to win here? Hone your skills and prepare to race hard.

Here is how this will work. I usually note my headings with periods. Every heading marked with a period is a Series Race. If you see an exclamation point (!) in each heading, it is a Championship. If you see a certain letter in parentheses in the heading, that is the required license for that championship or series race. Prize money is laid out in brackets. If it's a championship race, the prize money to the champion is listed at the end, separated by a semicolon.

Sunday Cup.

"Exciting technical course layouts! If you are just starting out, try polishing your skills here."
The Sunday Cup should be your first destination. Test your racing ability in these races. They are all fairly quick and don't require a very fast car to win.

Races:
• Super Speedway (3 laps)
• Midfield Raceway (2 laps, Normal)
• Trial Mountain (2 laps, Normal)

Prize Money: {1000, 900, 800,700, 600, 500}

Clubman Cup.

"Want to leave behind the amateur ranks? Try this race first for a challenge!"
Your next major test is the Clubman Cup. Here, you will take on some faster competition while still having quite a task on your hands trying to win here.

Races:
• Rome Circuit (2 laps, Normal)
• Special Stage Route 5 (2 laps, Normal)
• Deep Forest (2 laps, Normal)

Prize Money: {1000, 900, 800, 700, 600, 500}

FF Challenge.

"For those who want to try motorsports with front-wheel drive."
There are four main drivetrain types in Gran Turismo 3. This one features three races where the only requirement is that you race a front-drive car. Front-wheel drive offers amazing traction and are almost impossible to spin out. However, racing them can be a pain. You can't get aggressive as you can with a rear-drive car. Those who really hate FWD cars often call them "wrong-wheel drive" cars. Whatever you call them, you have no choice but to race these machines to victory if you want to be done with FWD cars. As a preview, be ready to deal with this series again in the tougher difficulty events (along with the other drivetrain-limited races).

• Deep Forest Raceway (Normal)
• Special Stage Route 5 (Normal)
• Rome Circuit (Normal)

Prize Money: {1500, 1000, 800, 700, 600, 500}

FR Challenge.

Front-engine cars with rear-wheel drive offers the most sporty experience in racing. It is a step up from racing the inexpensive front-wheel drive cars. You can enjoy the pull of front-engined cars along with the push rear-wheel drive provides. Be warned, however. Pushing a FR car too far will result in spins. More adept racers can enjoy drifting FR cars to aggressively corner (or just to show off).

Races:
• Grand Valley (Normal)
• Special Stage Route 5 (Normal)
• Apricot Hill (Reverse)

Prize Money: {1500, 1000, 800, 700, 600, 500}

MR Challenge.

"The challenge for all Midship-engine, rear-drive configure machines to win."
While mid-engine cars offer exceptional handling, they can be quite difficult to control, as well as being more expensive than most front-engine/RWD cars. You might learn this the hard way in this series of races.

Races:
• Trial Mountain (Normal)
• Deep Forest Raceway (Reverse)
• Apricot Hill (Normal)

Prize Money: {2000, 1500, 1000, 500, 400, 300}

4WD Challenge.

"Declaration of 4WD supremacy."
A four-wheel drive car offers the traction of front-wheel drive with the acceleration of rear-wheel drive. While this is very advantageous of 4WD cars, this drivetrain is usually not seen as very capable in road racing. You still get to test the limits of your 4WD car in this series of races.

Races:
• Deep Forest (Normal)
• Midfield Raceway (Normal)
• Special Stage Route 11 (Normal)

Prize Money: {2000, 1500, 1000, 500, 400, 300}

While convertible tops and roadsters don't go down in this game, you will get to still race any number of roadsters and convertibles in this game. Only convertibles and roadsters can race in this series.

Races:
• Deep Forest (Normal)
• Test Course
• Grand Valley (Reverse)

Prize Money: {2500, 1000, 500, 400, 300, 200}

--- Rally Events ---

The beautiful thing about this series of events is that you only need a Rally License and some off-road tires. On the other hand, there are two events you can race without needing Dirt Tires. This is a first in Gran Turismo history as you can do rally events without needing rally tires. Each event features three races around the track. The first race is the shortest and easiest, the second race is of medium length and diffculty, and the third race is the longest and toughest of the three. You only win money if you win the race. Since it is just you vs. another car, you either win or have to try again. Don't look for these races to be a money-maker, though. Only 5000 Credits will be offered for a victory in each race.

Rally Challenge.

You will be racing Tahiti Circuit. The Tahiti Challenge of Rally will test your ability to take on the challenge of racing around beautiful Tahiti on a competitive dirt course.

Tahiti Maze.

"Escape the maze and taste the nectar of victory."
The tougher of the Tahiti courses, your trip through French Polynesia's most popular island takes you on a wicked tour around Tahiti Maze. It is an unrelenting nightmare in paradise as you are going up against some intense and challenging corners. The roads are also a bit narrow, so make sure to take full advantage of this course's width and roads to win here.

Prize Money (to winner): {5000}

Smokey Mountain Rally.

Rally of Alps.

"The sound of exhaust reverberating in the Alps."

Smokey Mountain Rally II.

For the first-time ever in Gran Turismo, a rally event is held in an all-tarmac setting. Also, you don't need dirt tires to compete here. Just bring any car (even if it is a rally car). Remember that the roads are wet around Special Stage Route 5. Because of this, you will need to practice careful handling and even more careful car control if you expect to win.

Races: Special Stage Route 5 Wet (three different races)

Prize Money (to winner): {5000}

Super Special Stage Route 5 (Wet) II.

That's all there is to see on the rally front!

--- Endurance Events ---

As in any sport, the ability to endure is crucial. That ability will be tested in ten endurances races.

Grand Valley 300km.

"The legendary 300-km run. Master this high-speed technical course."
I can tell you that Grand Valley is the signature race track of the Gran Turismo series. I can also tell you that the Grand Valley 300km is the signature race of Gran Turismo. Rather than state these things, let this race and this track SHOW you why this is an exceptional track and an exceptional race. There are no limitations of any kind for what cars can compete here, but it's best you bring a high-powered GT car or a fast GT prototype.

Prize Money: {400000, 100000, 85000, 65000, 40000, 11000}

Seattle 100 Miles.

"Run through this tight and twisty urban street track."
The streets of Seattle, Washington, USA are for you to race on. This is a long race utilizing this track that is full of elevation changes. Your opposition are all high-powered American cars. If you want to be fair, don't bring a high-powered race car to this race. There are no limitations on car type for this race.

Prize Money: {150000, 70000, 55000, 45000, 20000, 9000}

Laguna Seca 200 Endurance.

"Our beloved and tricky circuit, Laguna Seca. The joy of 200 miles."
Laguna Seca Raceway is open for racing action when this 200-mile endurance is the attraction. Your opposition features some of the most powerful GT cars. If you want to be a major player in this race, bring your own high-powered GT car or even a GTP.

Prize Money: {300000, 85000, 70000, 55000, 30000, 10000}

Passage to Colosseo.

"Young man, head for II Colosseo."
Unlike most of the other races, this event is timed. If you competed in Gran Turismo 2 around this track, this is actually a returning endurance (the Millenium in Rome 2 Hour race in GT2). The opposition here are all mid-level European sports cars. There are, however, no limitations on what cars to bring to this event.

Prize Money: {300000, 85000, 70000, 30000, 10000}

Trial Mountain Endurance.

"A road runs over this mountain."
The roads of Trial Mountain are available to be raced on in a challenging two-hour endurance event. Trial Mountain is a race track that has rally course characteristics as you weave your way around rock faces and through forested areas. This race requires that you have a Normal car. In other words- only untuned production cars are allowed to race this event. That may be a good thing because this track can be insane with pure racing cars. Bring your best non-tuned street car to this event. Remember- NO racing cars and NO tuned cars. Your opposition is, for the most part, high-powered Japanese sports cars.

Prize Money: {150000, 70000, 55000, 45000, 20000, 9000}

Special Stage Route 11.

"Route 11. The start of a long night."
With the game's only true night endurance, Special Stage Route 11 is that punishing grind weaving around office buildings and skyscrapers. Very slow corners and bursts of high speed accentuate this course. High-powered GT cars and GTP race cars will serve you well here.

Prize Money: {500000, 120000, 100000, 80000, 50000, 12000}

Roadster Endurance.

"The lightweight open sports cars that changed the world."
This is the first-ever endurance in any Gran Turismo game limited to only one make or one model. This race is ONLY restricted to Mazda Miatas, and no tuned Mazda Miatas are allowed to compete in this race. The Miata is a severely underrated sports car with great performance characteristics. It is also an affordable rear-wheel drive roadster with peppy performance. All Miatas are invited to race, but remember that you can NOT bring a tuned Miata to this race.

Prize Money: {100000, 60000, 45000, 35000, 15000, 8000}

Tokyo Route 246.

"Earn the title of 'Tokyo's Fastest.'"
DTM and JGTC GT 500 cars rumble on the streets of Tokyo in this great endurance. This race lasts for 100 laps and about 2 hours, 45 minutes. Make time to play this one if you haven't already done so. Tokyo R246 is a very fast and long course with some very tricky corners. It has a little of everything to keep you on your toes for the entirety of the race.

Prize Money: {400000, 100000, 85000, 65000, 40000, 11000}

Mistral 78 Laps.

Call it what it is- the Grand Prix of Monaco. This race takes place on the world-renowned Circuit de Monaco course used by Formula 1 for the F1 Grand Prix of Monaco. Your opposition are all high-powered GT cars and even GT prototypes. Get ready for a long race while punishing your car on every lap on this purgatory of a race track.

Prize Money: {500000, 120000, 100000, 80000, 50000, 12000}

Super Speedway 150 Miles.

"Speed and staying power."
This endurance around Super Speedway is the first-ever endurance race around an oval in Gran Turismo history. While it may seem boring to run a long race on an oval, it is still an endurance. High-powered sports cars are the primary opposition for this endurance. No pure race car is needed here, though there are no limitations on what kind of car you can bring to this race.

Prize Money: {200000, 80000, 65000, 50000, 25000, 9500}

Have you conquered all ten endurances?

I may likely screw something up. If in the event of a screw up, I will edit this post accordingly. I've taken hours (not just minutes) out of my life to compile this entire resource. The main point was to feature the general information on each race and championship. Everything else is up to you. to explore and win each event. So go take care of business on the track, and thank you for reading!
